THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Safety

Auto-reverse

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Auto-reverse describes a control function that reverses the movement of a powered garage door after a relevant obstruction or protective-device signal is detected.

In practice

The trigger and response vary between door systems. A safety edge, sensing arrangement or controller may contribute to the behaviour, but the complete installation determines how it works.

Reversal is a protective response, not an invitation to touch a moving door. Keep the travel area clear and use the checks specified in the product instructions. Do not use hands, feet or other body parts to test closing forces. A change in stopping or reversing behaviour needs competent assessment.
