THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Controls

Control panel

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

The control panel or control unit manages the electrical operation of a compatible garage door and receives signals from its controls and protective devices.

In practice

Depending on the system, it may connect the motor, receiver, wall controls and safety equipment. A handset communicating with a receiver is only one part of this arrangement.

Controls and protective components must be compatible with the complete door. Fault indicators should be interpreted using the supplied instructions, rather than by changing settings or bypassing an input. If you plan to add app control or an accessory, discuss that intended use before ordering so the installation can be assessed accordingly.
