THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Door types

Sectional garage door

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

A sectional garage door uses several large hinged panels that move on tracks as the door opens and closes.

In practice

On a typical overhead arrangement, the panels rise vertically and follow tracks beneath the garage ceiling. This differs from the narrow linked slats of a roller curtain. The track arrangement, motor and available ceiling space need to suit the particular garage.

Sectional systems can offer different panel constructions, finishes and operating options. Compare their complete fitting requirements and clear opening with other door types. A roller and a sectional door described as insulated may have different whole-door specifications, so the label alone is not enough for a performance comparison.
