THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Controls

Remote control

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Remote control is operation of a garage door using a compatible transmitter rather than a switch wired directly to the control unit.

In practice

A handheld key fob sends a command to the receiver. Remote operation does not by itself imply smartphone control, internet access or compatibility with a particular smart-home system. Those functions need their own supported equipment and configuration.

Use the controls as directed, with the door and its travel area visible where the instructions require it. Keep transmitters secure and explain safe use to other household members. When comparing quotes, confirm the number of supplied transmitters and the arrangements for replacements and emergency access.
