THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Controls

Limit settings

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Limit settings define the intended open and closed stopping positions of a powered garage door.

In practice

They are established for the particular motor, controller and door during installation. Incorrect limits can affect closure, curtain travel and the way other parts of the system work. They are separate from protective devices such as a safety edge or photocell.

If the door stops in a different place, closes unevenly or repeatedly fails to complete its travel, record what happens and seek competent assistance. Do not compensate by repeatedly adjusting controls or forcing the curtain. The cause may be a mechanical or control fault rather than a setting that simply needs changing.
