THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Finishes

Powder coating

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Powder coating is a factory finishing process in which a dry coating is applied to a suitable surface and cured to form a finish.

In practice

It can provide colour and surface protection, but it is a process rather than a colour name or a guarantee that every part of a garage door uses the same treatment. Ask which components have which finish in the proposed specification.

Texture, sheen and the underlying material can affect appearance. When matching a door to windows or cladding, compare physical samples where available. Use the specified cleaning products and seek advice on damage; an unsuitable abrasive or repair product can change the appearance of the coated surface.
