THE GARAGE DOOR GLOSSARY / Finishes

Woodgrain finish

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

A woodgrain finish is a decorative surface intended to give a garage door the appearance of timber grain.

In practice

The appearance can be produced using different finishing systems, so the term does not mean the door is made from solid wood. Colour, grain pattern, sheen and the treatment of guides and covers should be confirmed for the actual product.

Compare a sample with nearby brickwork, windows and other timber-effect features where possible. Different products carrying a similar oak or rosewood name may not match exactly. Ask for the correct care instructions and avoid assuming that cleaners or repair methods intended for natural wood suit the garage door coating.
