WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
The clear opening is the usable, unobstructed width and height left for access after the garage door system is installed and open.
In practice
It can differ from the opening in the building because guides, frames, covers and the door’s final position occupy space. A nominal door size is therefore not a reliable substitute for the finished access dimensions.
This distinction matters when parking a wider vehicle, using roof-mounted equipment or moving tall items through the entrance. When comparing fitting arrangements, ask for the resulting clear width and height in the proposed configuration. The condition of the floor and any future building work should also be included in the discussion.
